Loft conversion skylights in South Yorkshire: the essentials
Across South Yorkshire, our loft conversion skylights work covers roof windows planned for loft rooms — light, headroom and escape. Survey first, fixed price second, fitting third.
Stone-built terraces are common across Yorkshire, and roof windows in the rear slope are a popular way to light attic rooms. Conservation areas and stone villages across Yorkshire often call for conservation rooflights in slate or stone-slate roofs.

Planning and building rules in England
English householder permitted development (Class C) normally covers rooflights that stand no more than 0.15 m proud of the roof plane and stay below the highest part of the roof. A rooflight on a side-facing slope must be obscure-glazed, and fixed shut unless the opening part is more than 1.7 m above the floor.
Under Approved Document L, a rooflight added to an English home must achieve at least 2.2 W/m²K (horizontal plane), and a roof window 1.4 W/m²K or Window Energy Rating Band B. The Future Homes and Buildings Standards, published in March 2026, apply from 24 March 2027 and keep the 2.2 W/m²K limit for rooflights.

How the job runs
- Tell us about the roof. Send the postcode, rough sizes and a photo or two through the form, WhatsApp or the guide-price tool.
- Free survey. For new installations a surveyor measures the opening, checks the roof build-up and talks through glass and options.
- Fixed written quote. You get the product, the work and the price in writing. Nothing is ordered or paid for until you agree.
- Fitting and handover. We fit, seal and make good, then hand over product data, warranties and any certificate paperwork.

Common questions
Top-hung or centre-pivot in a loft?
Top-hung gives a clearer view and often suits escape use; centre-pivot is easier to clean and suits higher positions.
Do loft roof windows need to be escape windows?
Some loft rooms need an escape window, depending on the layout and the fire strategy for the conversion. Building control confirms the requirement.
Can I add blinds later?
Yes — most manufacturers make blinds for each window size.
Will the loft be cold near the windows?
Correctly fitted insulation collars and linings keep the window surround warm and reduce condensation.
Do you fit loft conversion skylights across South Yorkshire?
Yes. We survey and fit loft conversion skylights across South Yorkshire, including Sheffield, Rotherham, Doncaster.
