What are frameless structural rooflights?
A frameless rooflight uses structural glass bonded to a concealed support so that, from inside, you see only plaster and sky — no visible frame. The glass overhangs or sits within the upstand, and the edge is hidden by the internal reveal.
Frameless units are chosen for the look: a crisp slot of sky over a kitchen island, or a long strip of light along a party wall.
The finish depends on getting the plastered reveal and the upstand dimensions exactly right, so we agree the internal finish before the glass is ordered.

Why choose frameless structural rooflights?
- Nothing but glass visible from inside
- Long, slim or very large formats
- Clean modern detail for architect-led schemes
- Double or triple glazed structural units
- Solar-control and low-iron glass options
- Can run along party walls and side returns
What options are there?
- Low-iron extra-clear glass
- Solar-control coatings
- Triple glazing
- Shadow-gap or plastered reveal
- Butt-jointed runs for long openings
- Heated glass on some ranges
What should you check before you order?
- Tolerances are tight — the opening must be built square and to size
- Large panes need lifting gear and access planning
- Structural glass specification comes from the manufacturer
- The internal finish (plaster, shadow gap) is agreed before order

Frameless structural rooflights: common questions
Is frameless glass as strong as a framed rooflight?
Yes — it is structural glass designed for the job. The support is hidden rather than missing.
Can a frameless rooflight be walked on?
Only if it is specified as a walk-on unit. Most frameless rooflights are for light only.
Does it cost more?
Usually, because the glass is larger and heavier and the finish needs tighter tolerances. The price table shows typical ranges.
Can it open?
Some frameless designs include a sliding or hinged opening element, but most are fixed. Pair with an opening unit if you need ventilation.
Will I see the edge of the glass?
From inside, the reveal is finished up to the glass so the edge is hidden. From outside you will see the glass and its edge seal.
How is it lifted onto the roof?
Larger panes go up with a vacuum lifter, a hoist or a crane. We plan access at survey.
