Frameless structural rooflights in Dyfed: the essentials
Frameless structural rooflights in Dyfed means minimal glass rooflights with no visible frame from inside. Every quote follows a survey of the roof and the room below.
Chapels, barns and farm buildings converted across Wales often need bespoke or conservation-style glass. Slate roofs, stone cottages and terraced valleys are typical across Wales, and slim rooflights that sit low in the slates suit them best.

Planning and building rules in Wales
In Wales a rooflight on a house is usually permitted development if it stands no more than 15 cm proud of the roof, except on protected land such as conservation areas and National Parks, where permission is needed. A side-facing rooflight within 10.5 m of the boundary must be obscure-glazed, and non-opening unless the opening part is more than 1.7 m above the floor.
Welsh Building Regulations expect new or replacement rooflights to reach 2.2 W/m²K and roof windows 1.4 W/m²K or a Band B rating. A revised Welsh Approved Document L takes effect on 4 March 2027; rooflights in new dwellings stay at 2.2 W/m²K.

- Fitting and handover. We fit, seal and make good, then hand over product data, warranties and any certificate paperwork.

Common questions
Can a frameless rooflight be walked on?
Only if it is specified as a walk-on unit. Most frameless rooflights are for light only.
Will I see the edge of the glass?
From inside, the reveal is finished up to the glass so the edge is hidden. From outside you will see the glass and its edge seal.
Can it open?
Some frameless designs include a sliding or hinged opening element, but most are fixed. Pair with an opening unit if you need ventilation.
How is it lifted onto the roof?
Larger panes go up with a vacuum lifter, a hoist or a crane. We plan access at survey.
Will I need planning permission in Dyfed?
Planning rules in Wales are tighter than in England for rooflights: Class C rights do not apply in conservation areas, National Parks or AONBs, so a rooflight there needs planning permission.
