Frameless structural rooflights in Cardigan: what is involved?
For Cardigan homes and buildings we offer frameless structural rooflights: minimal glass rooflights with no visible frame from inside. We measure first, specify to the opening and confirm any planning or building-control points before quoting.
Chapels, barns and farm buildings converted across Wales often need bespoke or conservation-style glass. In Cardigan, as anywhere, frameless structural rooflights are the usual choice for rooms where you want sky without a visible frame.
Neighbouring towns include Carmarthen (35 km) and Haverfordwest (38 km). We offer a survey date when we reply to your enquiry.
What you can choose
- Low-iron extra-clear glass
- Triple glazing
- Shadow-gap or plastered reveal
- Heated glass on some ranges
- Butt-jointed runs for long openings
- Long, slim or very large formats
- Nothing but glass visible from inside
Things we check at survey
- The internal finish (plaster, shadow gap) is agreed before order
- Tolerances are tight — the opening must be built square and to size
Do you need permission in Cardigan?
Welsh householder permitted development (Class C) allows rooflights that project no more than 15 cm and sit no higher than the existing roof — but not in conservation areas, National Parks, AONBs or World Heritage Sites. A side-facing rooflight within 10.5 m of the boundary must be obscure-glazed, and non-opening unless the opening part is more than 1.7 m above the floor.
Approved Document L in Wales (2022 edition) sets 2.2 W/m²K for rooflights, measured horizontally, and 1.4 W/m²K or Band B for roof windows in existing homes. Wales also has its own overheating rules (Part O) for new homes, in force since November 2022.
See our building regulations guide for U-values, glazing limits and self-certification.

Frameless structural rooflights in Cardigan: questions
Is frameless glass as strong as a framed rooflight?
Yes — it is structural glass designed for the job. The support is hidden rather than missing.
Will I see the edge of the glass?
From inside, the reveal is finished up to the glass so the edge is hidden. From outside you will see the glass and its edge seal.
Can a frameless rooflight be walked on?
Only if it is specified as a walk-on unit. Most frameless rooflights are for light only.
Can you work alongside my builder in Cardigan?
Yes. On new extensions we fit once the opening and upstand are ready and coordinate dates with your builder.
Do I need to be at home for the survey in Cardigan?
Yes — someone needs to let us into the room below and, where possible, show us how the roof is reached.
