What do ridge & pitched glass roofs involve?
Across Dumfries and Galloway, our ridge & pitched glass roofs work covers dual-pitch glazed roofs for side returns, links and long extensions. Survey first, fixed price second, fitting third.
Many Scottish homes have dormers and attic rooms where an extra roof window adds light without a full dormer. Stone villas, cottages and conservation areas across Scotland often call for conservation rooflights in slate roofs.

Planning and building rules in Scotland
In Scotland most rooflights on houses fall under Class 2B permitted development; in a conservation area, or on a listed building, consent is needed. Listed buildings need listed building consent where the work affects their character.
Scotland's Technical Handbook (section 6) asks for windows, doors and rooflights in an extension to average 1.4–1.6 W/m²K, with no single unit worse than 3.3 W/m²K. Replacing a rooflight, frame included, does not need a building warrant, but the work must still meet the building standards.

Common questions
Will it be noisy in the rain?
Glass is quieter than polycarbonate. Triple glazing or laminated glass reduces rain noise further.
Is a glass roof too hot for a kitchen?
Without care, it can be. Solar-control glass, an opening vent at the top and a blind make a south-facing glass roof comfortable.
Can it have opening vents?
Yes, top-hung vents with electric actuators are common, often with a rain sensor.
Can it be partly solid?
Yes — part-glazed, part-insulated roofs balance light and heat.
Do you fit ridge & pitched glass roofs across Dumfries and Galloway?
Yes. We survey and fit ridge & pitched glass roofs across Dumfries and Galloway, including Dumfries, Annan, Castle Douglas.
