What do ridge & pitched glass roofs involve?
Our ridge & pitched glass roofs service in Dundee and Angus covers dual-pitch glazed roofs for side returns, links and long extensions. We survey every job before fixing the price.
Scottish weather is hard on roofs, so we specify rooflights and roof windows with exposure in mind and fit upstands with generous heights. Many Scottish homes have dormers and attic rooms where an extra roof window adds light without a full dormer.

Planning and building rules in Scotland
In Scotland most rooflights on houses fall under Class 2B permitted development; in a conservation area, or on a listed building, consent is needed. Flats and tenements are outside householder permitted development, so check with the planning authority first.
Scotland's Technical Handbook (section 6) asks for windows, doors and rooflights in an extension to average 1.4–1.6 W/m²K, with no single unit worse than 3.3 W/m²K. Forming a new opening normally involves structural work, so check with the local authority verifier whether a building warrant is needed.

Common questions
Will it be noisy in the rain?
Glass is quieter than polycarbonate. Triple glazing or laminated glass reduces rain noise further.
Is a glass roof too hot for a kitchen?
Without care, it can be. Solar-control glass, an opening vent at the top and a blind make a south-facing glass roof comfortable.
Can it be partly solid?
Yes — part-glazed, part-insulated roofs balance light and heat.
Can it have opening vents?
Yes, top-hung vents with electric actuators are common, often with a rain sensor.
Do I need to be at home for the survey in Dundee and Angus?
Yes — someone needs to let us into the room below and, where possible, show us how the roof is reached.
