Ridge & pitched glass roofs in Staffordshire: the essentials
Our ridge & pitched glass roofs service in Staffordshire covers dual-pitch glazed roofs for side returns, links and long extensions. We survey every job before fixing the price.
Industrial and commercial units around Midlands towns often still have their original rooflight sheets, which are due for replacement. Bungalows are common across parts of the Midlands, and sun tunnels or roof windows are a quick way to brighten internal hallways.

Planning and building rules in England
English householder permitted development (Class C) normally covers rooflights that stand no more than 0.15 m proud of the roof plane and stay below the highest part of the roof. Listed buildings need listed building consent, flats have no householder permitted development rights, and an Article 4 direction can remove the rights in some conservation areas.
Building Regulations Approved Document L sets a limiting U-value of 2.2 W/m²K for new or replacement rooflights in existing homes, measured in the horizontal plane; roof windows need 1.4 W/m²K or a Band B energy rating. The Future Homes and Buildings Standards, published in March 2026, apply from 24 March 2027 and keep the 2.2 W/m²K limit for rooflights.

How the job runs

- Free survey. For new installations a surveyor measures the opening, checks the roof build-up and talks through glass and options.
- Fixed written quote. You get the product, the work and the price in writing. Nothing is ordered or paid for until you agree.
- Fitting and handover. We fit, seal and make good, then hand over product data, warranties and any certificate paperwork.

Common questions
Is a glass roof too hot for a kitchen?
Without care, it can be. Solar-control glass, an opening vent at the top and a blind make a south-facing glass roof comfortable.
Can it have opening vents?
Yes, top-hung vents with electric actuators are common, often with a rain sensor.
Do I need a party wall agreement?
If the work affects a party wall or boundary, the Party Wall etc. Act 1996 may apply in England and Wales. We flag this at survey so you can serve notice in time.
Will it be noisy in the rain?
Glass is quieter than polycarbonate. Triple glazing or laminated glass reduces rain noise further.
Do I need to be at home for the survey in Staffordshire?
Yes — someone needs to let us into the room below and, where possible, show us how the roof is reached.
