What are sun tunnels & tubular skylights?
Across the Isle of Wight, our sun tunnels & tubular skylights work covers light pipes that bring daylight to halls and bathrooms with no window. Survey first, fixed price second, fitting third.
Across the South East, single-storey kitchen extensions on 1930s semis and post-war detached houses are where most flat rooflights and lanterns go. Many South East homes have been extended more than once, and an old dome over an earlier extension is often due for replacement.

Planning and building rules in England
Most rooflights on English houses do not need planning permission, provided they keep within 150 mm of the roof surface and below the ridge line. A rooflight on a side-facing slope must be obscure-glazed, and fixed shut unless the opening part is more than 1.7 m above the floor.
Building Regulations Approved Document L sets a limiting U-value of 2.2 W/m²K for new or replacement rooflights in existing homes, measured in the horizontal plane; roof windows need 1.4 W/m²K or a Band B energy rating. In an extension, glazing including rooflights is normally limited to 25% of the new floor area plus any windows or doors the extension covers, unless a whole-house calculation shows otherwise.

Common questions
Rigid or flexible tube?
Rigid tubes carry much more light. Flexible tubes are easier where the loft is cluttered, but lose light faster.
How much light does a sun tunnel give?
A good rigid tunnel on a bright day lights a hallway well. Output depends on tube diameter, length and the number of bends.
Will it get condensation?
Insulating the tube where it passes through a cold loft prevents most condensation.
Can it go through a flat roof?
Yes, with a flat-roof flashing and upstand.
Do you fit sun tunnels & tubular skylights across the Isle of Wight?
Yes. We survey and fit sun tunnels & tubular skylights across the Isle of Wight, including Newport, Isle of Wight, Ryde, Cowes.
