Skylights and rooflights across Hertfordshire
We survey, supply and fit skylights and rooflights across Hertfordshire, including Watford, Hemel Hempstead and Stevenage.
Larger gardens in much of the South East mean deeper rear extensions, and deeper rooms need light from above rather than only from the doors.
Orangery-style extensions with lanterns are popular across the South East, and solar-control glass makes a big difference on south-facing gardens.

Planning and building rules in England
English householder permitted development (Class C) normally covers rooflights that stand no more than 0.15 m proud of the roof plane and stay below the highest part of the roof. A rooflight on a side-facing slope must be obscure-glazed, and fixed shut unless the opening part is more than 1.7 m above the floor.
For English homes the energy rules ask for rooflights of 2.2 W/m²K or better and roof windows of 1.4 W/m²K (or WER Band B); most modern double glazed units meet both. In an extension, glazing including rooflights is normally limited to 25% of the new floor area plus any windows or doors the extension covers, unless a whole-house calculation shows otherwise.

Common questions
Do you cover all of Hertfordshire?
Yes. We survey and fit across Hertfordshire, including Watford, Hemel Hempstead and Stevenage. Remote and island addresses are by arrangement.
Do I need planning permission for a rooflight in Hertfordshire?
In England a rooflight on a house is usually permitted development under Class C if it projects no more than 150 mm beyond the roof slope and sits no higher than the ridge.
Can a skylight be fitted into an existing flat roof?
Yes. We form the opening, trim joists, build an insulated upstand, re-waterproof and make good the ceiling.
Do you take a deposit?
Nothing is paid until you accept a written quote. Made-to-measure products are ordered after you accept, we tell you in writing when the order is placed, and the quote states the payment stages.
Do I need planning permission?
Usually not for a rooflight on a house within the permitted development limits. Rules differ by nation: flats are not covered, listed buildings need listed building consent, and in Wales, Scotland and NI a rooflight in a conservation area needs permission. See our planning guide.
