Skylights and rooflights across Surrey
SkylightCompany.uk covers the whole of Surrey — homes, extensions, schools and commercial roofs — with a free survey for new installations.
Larger gardens in much of the South East mean deeper rear extensions, and deeper rooms need light from above rather than only from the doors.
Orangery-style extensions with lanterns are popular across the South East, and solar-control glass makes a big difference on south-facing gardens.

Planning and building rules in England
English householder permitted development (Class C) normally covers rooflights that stand no more than 0.15 m proud of the roof plane and stay below the highest part of the roof. Listed buildings need listed building consent, flats have no householder permitted development rights, and an Article 4 direction can remove the rights in some conservation areas.
Building Regulations Approved Document L sets a limiting U-value of 2.2 W/m²K for new or replacement rooflights in existing homes, measured in the horizontal plane; roof windows need 1.4 W/m²K or a Band B energy rating. The Future Homes and Buildings Standards, published in March 2026, apply from 24 March 2027 and keep the 2.2 W/m²K limit for rooflights.

Common questions
Do you cover all of Surrey?
Yes. We survey and fit across Surrey, including Woking, Guildford and Esher. Remote and island addresses are by arrangement.
Do I need planning permission for a rooflight in Surrey?
English householder permitted development (Class C) normally covers rooflights that stand no more than 0.15 m proud of the roof plane and stay below the highest part of the roof.
Do I need planning permission?
Usually not for a rooflight on a house within the permitted development limits. Rules differ by nation: flats are not covered, listed buildings need listed building consent, and in Wales, Scotland and NI a rooflight in a conservation area needs permission. See our planning guide.
Do you cover my area?
We survey and fit across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Remote and island addresses are by arrangement — send your postcode and we will confirm.
Will a rooflight make my room too hot?
It can on a south-facing roof with clear glass. Solar-control glass, an opening unit and a blind keep the room comfortable.
