How we approach bespoke & shaped rooflights in Rayleigh
We handle bespoke & shaped rooflights across Essex, including Rayleigh. In short: triangular, angled, curved and multi-pane rooflights made to measure. The survey checks structure, weathering and orientation, so the quote reflects your actual roof.
Coastal towns in the East of England see salty air, so we specify frame finishes and fixings with exposure in mind. In Rayleigh, as anywhere, bespoke & shaped rooflights are the usual choice for openings that standard sizes do not fit.
Rayleigh is around 9 km from Southend-on-Sea, and we survey and fit throughout that part of Essex, including the SS6 district.

Planning and building rules for Rayleigh
Most rooflights on English houses do not need planning permission, provided they keep within 150 mm of the roof surface and below the ridge line. A rooflight on a side-facing slope must be obscure-glazed, and fixed shut unless the opening part is more than 1.7 m above the floor.
Building Regulations Approved Document L sets a limiting U-value of 2.2 W/m²K for new or replacement rooflights in existing homes, measured in the horizontal plane; roof windows need 1.4 W/m²K or a Band B energy rating. The Future Homes and Buildings Standards, published in March 2026, apply from 24 March 2027 and keep the 2.2 W/m²K limit for rooflights.
Read the planning permission guide before you commit to a design.

How the job runs
- Tell us what you have. Send the SS6 postcode, a rough size and a couple of photos.
- Survey. We measure the opening, check the roof build-up and agree the options.
- Agree the quote. You approve the specification and price before anything is ordered.
- Fit and make good. We fit, seal, test and finish the reveal, then hand over the paperwork.

Common questions
Why does bespoke take longer?
Each unit is drawn, checked and manufactured to order.
Can any shape be made?
Most straight-edged shapes can be made in glass, within the manufacturer's size and angle limits. Curved glass is possible but specialist.
Do you need my architect's drawings?
They help. We still survey on site, because built openings rarely match drawings exactly.
Is the survey in Rayleigh free?
Yes for new installations. Repair visits are charged, and we tell you the price before we book.
Do I need to be at home for the survey in Rayleigh?
Yes — someone needs to let us into the room below and, where possible, show us how the roof is reached.
