Bespoke & shaped rooflights for Kensington: the essentials

For Kensington homes and buildings we offer bespoke & shaped rooflights: triangular, angled, curved and multi-pane rooflights made to measure. We measure first, specify to the opening and confirm any planning or building-control points before quoting.

Party walls are a fact of life in London terraces, and rooflights close to a shared wall need detailing that keeps the neighbour's side dry too. Bespoke & shaped rooflights suit openings that standard sizes do not fit.

Neighbouring towns include Notting Hill (2 km) and Shepherds Bush (2 km). We offer a survey date when we reply to your enquiry.

Planning, building control and Kensington

English householder permitted development (Class C) normally covers rooflights that stand no more than 0.15 m proud of the roof plane and stay below the highest part of the roof. A rooflight on a side-facing slope must be obscure-glazed, and fixed shut unless the opening part is more than 1.7 m above the floor.

Under Approved Document L, a rooflight added to an English home must achieve at least 2.2 W/m²K (horizontal plane), and a roof window 1.4 W/m²K or Window Energy Rating Band B. The Future Homes and Buildings Standards, published in March 2026, apply from 24 March 2027 and keep the 2.2 W/m²K limit for rooflights.

Our planning guide covers each nation in more detail.

Questions about bespoke & shaped rooflights in Kensington

Can any shape be made?

Most straight-edged shapes can be made in glass, within the manufacturer's size and angle limits. Curved glass is possible but specialist.

Do you need my architect's drawings?

They help. We still survey on site, because built openings rarely match drawings exactly.

Can bespoke units open?

Some can. Shaped glass is usually fixed, combined with a standard opening unit elsewhere.

Will I need planning permission in Kensington?

Most rooflights on English houses do not need planning permission, provided they keep within 150 mm of the roof surface and below the ridge line.

Do you offer bespoke & shaped rooflights in Kensington?

Yes. We carry out bespoke & shaped rooflights in Kensington and across Greater London. Send your postcode and we will offer a survey date when we reply.
