What do commercial & industrial rooflights involve?
Across Dumfries and Galloway, our commercial & industrial rooflights work covers rooflights for warehouses, schools, offices and retail units. Survey first, fixed price second, fitting third.
Tenements and flats are common in Scottish towns and cities, where rooflights over stairwells and top-floor flats need the owners' and factor's agreement. Many Scottish homes have dormers and attic rooms where an extra roof window adds light without a full dormer.

Planning and building rules in Scotland
On commercial roofs the main questions are usually building control, fire classification of rooflight materials and safe access rather than householder permitted development. We confirm the route for your building before ordering.
For non-domestic buildings in Scotland, the non-domestic Technical Handbook (section 6) sets the energy standards for rooflights; we supply the manufacturer's data for the building warrant. Fragile-roof safety and access are planned before work starts.

How the job runs
- Tell us about the roof. Send the postcode, rough sizes and a photo or two through the form, WhatsApp or the guide-price tool.
- Free survey. For new installations a surveyor measures the opening, checks the roof build-up and talks through glass and options.
- Fixed written quote. You get the product, the work and the price in writing. Nothing is ordered or paid for until you agree.
- Fitting and handover. We fit, seal and make good, then hand over product data, warranties and any certificate paperwork.

Common questions
Are old rooflights a safety risk?
Older plastic rooflight sheets can become brittle. Anyone working on the roof must treat them as fragile unless proven otherwise.
Can rooflights double as smoke vents?
Some units are certified smoke ventilators. See our smoke-vent rooflights page.
Do you supply O&M information?
Yes — product data, manufacturer warranties and maintenance notes are handed over at completion.
Can you replace old warehouse rooflight sheets?
Yes. We match the roof profile, replace discoloured or damaged sheets and plan safe access while the building stays in use.
Do I need to be at home for the survey in Dumfries and Galloway?
Yes — someone needs to let us into the room below and, where possible, show us how the roof is reached.
