What do dome rooflights involve?
Across Somerset, our dome rooflights work covers polycarbonate and acrylic domes for flat roofs, new or replacement. Survey first, fixed price second, fitting third.
Western coasts take wind-driven rain, so we pay close attention to upstand height and flashing laps on exposed roofs. Barn and chapel conversions in the South West often need bespoke or shaped rooflights to suit the original structure.

Planning and building rules in England
On commercial roofs the main questions are usually building control, fire classification of rooflight materials and safe access rather than householder permitted development. We confirm the route for your building before ordering.
For buildings other than dwellings, Approved Document L Volume 2 sets limiting U-values of 2.2 W/m²K for rooflights and 3.0 W/m²K for roof ventilators, including smoke vents. Fire classification of rooflight materials near boundaries is checked at specification.

How the job runs
- Tell us about the roof. Send the postcode, rough sizes and a photo or two through the form, WhatsApp or the guide-price tool.
- Free survey. For new installations a surveyor measures the opening, checks the roof build-up and talks through glass and options.
- Fixed written quote. You get the product, the work and the price in writing. Nothing is ordered or paid for until you agree.
- Fitting and handover. We fit, seal and make good, then hand over product data, warranties and any certificate paperwork.

Common questions
Can domes open?
Hinged and vented domes are available, manual or electric.
Are domes safe to walk on?
No. Treat any rooflight as fragile unless it is specifically certified non-fragile, and never stand on it.
Why has my dome gone yellow?
UV breaks down older plastics over time. Modern domes have UV-protective layers, but all plastics age.
Can you replace just the dome?
Yes, if the upstand is sound and the size matches. Otherwise we replace both.
Do I need to be at home for the survey in Somerset?
Yes — someone needs to let us into the room below and, where possible, show us how the roof is reached.
