How we approach loft conversion skylights in Windsor
We handle loft conversion skylights across Berkshire, including Windsor. In short: roof windows planned for loft rooms — light, headroom and escape. The survey checks structure, weathering and orientation, so the quote reflects your actual roof.
Many South East homes have been extended more than once, and an old dome over an earlier extension is often due for replacement. In Windsor, as anywhere, loft conversion skylights are the usual choice for attic bedrooms, offices and en-suites.
Jobs in Windsor are planned around access: whether the roof can be reached from the garden, whether a hoist or crane is needed, and where we can park. We check this when we measure.
Choices for your Windsor project
- Balcony roof windows on some ranges
- Blackout and thermal blinds
- Combination and stacked layouts
- Centre-pivot or top-hung
- Conservation styles
- Escape-window sizing where required
- Set out on the rafters before plastering
What to check first
- Rafter spacing affects window widths
- Front roof slopes can be restricted in conservation areas
Planning, building control and Windsor
In England a rooflight on a house is usually permitted development under Class C if it projects no more than 150 mm beyond the roof slope and sits no higher than the ridge. A rooflight on a side-facing slope must be obscure-glazed, and fixed shut unless the opening part is more than 1.7 m above the floor.
For English homes the energy rules ask for rooflights of 2.2 W/m²K or better and roof windows of 1.4 W/m²K (or WER Band B); most modern double glazed units meet both. The Future Homes and Buildings Standards, published in March 2026, apply from 24 March 2027 and keep the 2.2 W/m²K limit for rooflights.
See our building regulations guide for U-values, glazing limits and self-certification.

- Agree the quote. You approve the specification and price before anything is ordered.
- Installation day. Usually one day into a prepared opening, longer for new openings.

Questions about loft conversion skylights in Windsor
Will the loft be cold near the windows?
Correctly fitted insulation collars and linings keep the window surround warm and reduce condensation.
Top-hung or centre-pivot in a loft?
Top-hung gives a clearer view and often suits escape use; centre-pivot is easier to clean and suits higher positions.
Do loft roof windows need to be escape windows?
Some loft rooms need an escape window, depending on the layout and the fire strategy for the conversion. Building control confirms the requirement.
Is the survey in Windsor free?
