Loft conversion skylights in Cheltenham: what is involved?
Our loft conversion skylights service in Cheltenham covers roof windows planned for loft rooms — light, headroom and escape. Every job starts with a survey of the opening, the roof covering and the room below, and a fixed written price.
Barn and chapel conversions in the South West often need bespoke or shaped rooflights to suit the original structure. Think of loft conversion skylights for loft conversions and rooms in the roof.
Neighbouring towns include Tewkesbury (12 km) and Gloucester (12 km). We offer a survey date when we reply to your enquiry.

Planning, building control and Cheltenham
In England a rooflight on a house is usually permitted development under Class C if it projects no more than 150 mm beyond the roof slope and sits no higher than the ridge. A rooflight on a side-facing slope must be obscure-glazed, and fixed shut unless the opening part is more than 1.7 m above the floor.
For English homes the energy rules ask for rooflights of 2.2 W/m²K or better and roof windows of 1.4 W/m²K (or WER Band B); most modern double glazed units meet both. The Future Homes and Buildings Standards, published in March 2026, apply from 24 March 2027 and keep the 2.2 W/m²K limit for rooflights.
See our building regulations guide for U-values, glazing limits and self-certification.

Loft conversion skylights in Cheltenham: questions
Can you work alongside my loft builder?
Yes — we set out and fit the windows to the builder's programme.
Top-hung or centre-pivot in a loft?
Top-hung gives a clearer view and often suits escape use; centre-pivot is easier to clean and suits higher positions.
How many roof windows does a loft room need?
Enough to give good light — a common rule of thumb is glazing equal to roughly a tenth to a fifth of the floor area, adjusted for orientation and use. We advise at survey.
Do I need to be at home for the survey in Cheltenham?
Yes — someone needs to let us into the room below and, where possible, show us how the roof is reached.
Will I need planning permission in Cheltenham?
English householder permitted development (Class C) normally covers rooflights that stand no more than 0.15 m proud of the roof plane and stay below the highest part of the roof.
