Loft conversion skylights for Harrow: the essentials
For Harrow homes and buildings we offer loft conversion skylights: roof windows planned for loft rooms — light, headroom and escape. We measure first, specify to the opening and confirm any planning or building-control points before quoting.
Many London roofs are reached only through the house or over neighbouring property, so lifting heavy glass is planned at survey rather than on the day. Loft conversion skylights suit attic bedrooms, offices and en-suites.
We work across Greater London, including Harrow, and in neighbouring towns such as Wembley and Northolt. Access, parking and how the glass reaches the roof are all checked at the survey.

Do you need permission in Harrow?
Most rooflights on English houses do not need planning permission, provided they keep within 150 mm of the roof surface and below the ridge line. A rooflight on a side-facing slope must be obscure-glazed, and fixed shut unless the opening part is more than 1.7 m above the floor.
Under Approved Document L, a rooflight added to an English home must achieve at least 2.2 W/m²K (horizontal plane), and a roof window 1.4 W/m²K or Window Energy Rating Band B. The Future Homes and Buildings Standards, published in March 2026, apply from 24 March 2027 and keep the 2.2 W/m²K limit for rooflights.

Common questions
Can I add blinds later?
Yes — most manufacturers make blinds for each window size.
How many roof windows does a loft room need?
Enough to give good light — a common rule of thumb is glazing equal to roughly a tenth to a fifth of the floor area, adjusted for orientation and use. We advise at survey.
Top-hung or centre-pivot in a loft?
Top-hung gives a clearer view and often suits escape use; centre-pivot is easier to clean and suits higher positions.
Is the survey in Harrow free?
Yes for new installations. Repair visits are charged, and we tell you the price before we book.
Can you work alongside my builder in Harrow?
Yes. On new extensions we fit once the opening and upstand are ready and coordinate dates with your builder.
