How we approach loft conversion skylights in Twickenham
Our loft conversion skylights service in Twickenham covers roof windows planned for loft rooms — light, headroom and escape. Every job starts with a survey of the opening, the roof covering and the room below, and a fixed written price.
London homes often run deep from front to back, so the middle of the ground floor is the darkest space — exactly where an overhead rooflight earns its keep. Loft conversion skylights suit loft conversions and rooms in the roof.
We work across Greater London, including Twickenham, and in neighbouring towns such as Richmond and Kingston upon Thames. Access, parking and how the glass reaches the roof are all checked at the survey.

Planning and building rules for Twickenham
Most rooflights on English houses do not need planning permission, provided they keep within 150 mm of the roof surface and below the ridge line. A rooflight on a side-facing slope must be obscure-glazed, and fixed shut unless the opening part is more than 1.7 m above the floor.
For English homes the energy rules ask for rooflights of 2.2 W/m²K or better and roof windows of 1.4 W/m²K (or WER Band B); most modern double glazed units meet both. The Future Homes and Buildings Standards, published in March 2026, apply from 24 March 2027 and keep the 2.2 W/m²K limit for rooflights.

Common questions
Do loft roof windows need to be escape windows?
Some loft rooms need an escape window, depending on the layout and the fire strategy for the conversion. Building control confirms the requirement.
How many roof windows does a loft room need?
Enough to give good light — a common rule of thumb is glazing equal to roughly a tenth to a fifth of the floor area, adjusted for orientation and use. We advise at survey.
Will the loft be cold near the windows?
Correctly fitted insulation collars and linings keep the window surround warm and reduce condensation.
Can you work alongside my builder in Twickenham?
Yes. On new extensions we fit once the opening and upstand are ready and coordinate dates with your builder.
Do I need to be at home for the survey in Twickenham?
Yes — someone needs to let us into the room below and, where possible, show us how the roof is reached.
