Loft conversion skylights in Chatham: what is involved?
For Chatham homes and buildings we offer loft conversion skylights: roof windows planned for loft rooms — light, headroom and escape. We measure first, specify to the opening and confirm any planning or building-control points before quoting.
Larger gardens in much of the South East mean deeper rear extensions, and deeper rooms need light from above rather than only from the doors. In Chatham, as anywhere, loft conversion skylights are the usual choice for attic bedrooms, offices and en-suites.
Jobs in Chatham are planned around access: whether the roof can be reached from the garden, whether a hoist or crane is needed, and where we can park. We check this when we measure.

Do you need permission in Chatham?
In England a rooflight on a house is usually permitted development under Class C if it projects no more than 150 mm beyond the roof slope and sits no higher than the ridge. A rooflight on a side-facing slope must be obscure-glazed, and fixed shut unless the opening part is more than 1.7 m above the floor.
Under Approved Document L, a rooflight added to an English home must achieve at least 2.2 W/m²K (horizontal plane), and a roof window 1.4 W/m²K or Window Energy Rating Band B. In an extension, glazing including rooflights is normally limited to 25% of the new floor area plus any windows or doors the extension covers, unless a whole-house calculation shows otherwise.

Common questions
Will the loft be cold near the windows?
Correctly fitted insulation collars and linings keep the window surround warm and reduce condensation.
Can I add blinds later?
Yes — most manufacturers make blinds for each window size.
Do loft roof windows need to be escape windows?
Some loft rooms need an escape window, depending on the layout and the fire strategy for the conversion. Building control confirms the requirement.
Do I need to be at home for the survey in Chatham?
Yes — someone needs to let us into the room below and, where possible, show us how the roof is reached.
Is the survey in Chatham free?
Yes for new installations. Repair visits are charged, and we tell you the price before we book.
