Loft conversion skylights in Norfolk: the essentials
Our loft conversion skylights service in Norfolk covers roof windows planned for loft rooms — light, headroom and escape. We survey every job before fixing the price.
Coastal towns in the East of England see salty air, so we specify frame finishes and fixings with exposure in mind. Barn conversions and timber-framed homes across the East often call for conservation rooflights or bespoke glass.

Planning and building rules in England
In England a rooflight on a house is usually permitted development under Class C if it projects no more than 150 mm beyond the roof slope and sits no higher than the ridge. A rooflight on a side-facing slope must be obscure-glazed, and fixed shut unless the opening part is more than 1.7 m above the floor.
Building Regulations Approved Document L sets a limiting U-value of 2.2 W/m²K for new or replacement rooflights in existing homes, measured in the horizontal plane; roof windows need 1.4 W/m²K or a Band B energy rating. The Future Homes and Buildings Standards, published in March 2026, apply from 24 March 2027 and keep the 2.2 W/m²K limit for rooflights.

Common questions
Can I add blinds later?
Yes — most manufacturers make blinds for each window size.
Do loft roof windows need to be escape windows?
Some loft rooms need an escape window, depending on the layout and the fire strategy for the conversion. Building control confirms the requirement.
Can you work alongside my loft builder?
Yes — we set out and fit the windows to the builder's programme.
How many roof windows does a loft room need?
Enough to give good light — a common rule of thumb is glazing equal to roughly a tenth to a fifth of the floor area, adjusted for orientation and use. We advise at survey.
Do you fit loft conversion skylights across Norfolk?
