Loft conversion skylights in Pontefract: what is involved?
For Pontefract homes and buildings we offer loft conversion skylights: roof windows planned for loft rooms — light, headroom and escape. We measure first, specify to the opening and confirm any planning or building-control points before quoting.
Many Yorkshire homes have had kitchen extensions with flat roofs, where a larger glass rooflight is a straightforward upgrade from an old dome. In Pontefract, as anywhere, loft conversion skylights are the usual choice for attic bedrooms, offices and en-suites.
We work across West Yorkshire, including Pontefract, and in neighbouring towns such as Castleford and Wakefield. Access, parking and how the glass reaches the roof are all checked at the survey.

Planning, building control and Pontefract
Most rooflights on English houses do not need planning permission, provided they keep within 150 mm of the roof surface and below the ridge line. A rooflight on a side-facing slope must be obscure-glazed, and fixed shut unless the opening part is more than 1.7 m above the floor.
Building Regulations Approved Document L sets a limiting U-value of 2.2 W/m²K for new or replacement rooflights in existing homes, measured in the horizontal plane; roof windows need 1.4 W/m²K or a Band B energy rating. In an extension, glazing including rooflights is normally limited to 25% of the new floor area plus any windows or doors the extension covers, unless a whole-house calculation shows otherwise.

Common questions
Will the loft be cold near the windows?
Correctly fitted insulation collars and linings keep the window surround warm and reduce condensation.
Can I add blinds later?
Yes — most manufacturers make blinds for each window size.
Top-hung or centre-pivot in a loft?
Top-hung gives a clearer view and often suits escape use; centre-pivot is easier to clean and suits higher positions.
Can you work alongside my builder in Pontefract?
Yes. On new extensions we fit once the opening and upstand are ready and coordinate dates with your builder.
Do you fit loft conversion skylights in Pontefract?
Yes. We survey and fit loft conversion skylights in Pontefract and across West Yorkshire. Send your postcode and we will offer a survey date when we reply.
