What do ridge & pitched glass roofs involve?
Our ridge & pitched glass roofs service in Merseyside covers dual-pitch glazed roofs for side returns, links and long extensions. We survey every job before fixing the price.
The North West gets more rain than most of England, so upstand height, membrane detailing and rain sensors on opening units are not optional extras. Converted mills and warehouses in the North West often have large rooflights or glass roofs that need specialist replacement.

Planning and building rules in England
In England a rooflight on a house is usually permitted development under Class C if it projects no more than 150 mm beyond the roof slope and sits no higher than the ridge. A rooflight on a side-facing slope must be obscure-glazed, and fixed shut unless the opening part is more than 1.7 m above the floor.
For English homes the energy rules ask for rooflights of 2.2 W/m²K or better and roof windows of 1.4 W/m²K (or WER Band B); most modern double glazed units meet both. In an extension, glazing including rooflights is normally limited to 25% of the new floor area plus any windows or doors the extension covers, unless a whole-house calculation shows otherwise.

Common questions
Is a glass roof too hot for a kitchen?
Without care, it can be. Solar-control glass, an opening vent at the top and a blind make a south-facing glass roof comfortable.
How long does a ridge roof take to fit?
Typically two to four days once the walls and supports are ready, depending on length and access.
Do I need a party wall agreement?
If the work affects a party wall or boundary, the Party Wall etc. Act 1996 may apply in England and Wales. We flag this at survey so you can serve notice in time.
Will it be noisy in the rain?
Glass is quieter than polycarbonate. Triple glazing or laminated glass reduces rain noise further.
Do I need to be at home for the survey in Merseyside?
Yes — someone needs to let us into the room below and, where possible, show us how the roof is reached.
