What are ridge & pitched glass roofs?
Our ridge & pitched glass roofs service in South Glamorgan covers dual-pitch glazed roofs for side returns, links and long extensions. We survey every job before fixing the price.
Welsh planning rules exclude rooflights from permitted development in conservation areas and National Parks, so we check the designation before quoting. Chapels, barns and farm buildings converted across Wales often need bespoke or conservation-style glass.

Planning and building rules in Wales
Planning rules in Wales are tighter than in England for rooflights: Class C rights do not apply in conservation areas, National Parks or AONBs, so a rooflight there needs planning permission. Listed buildings need listed building consent from the council, and flats have no householder permitted development rights.
Welsh Building Regulations expect new or replacement rooflights to reach 2.2 W/m²K and roof windows 1.4 W/m²K or a Band B rating. Wales also has its own overheating rules (Part O) for new homes, in force since November 2022.

Common questions
Can it have opening vents?
Yes, top-hung vents with electric actuators are common, often with a rain sensor.
Will it be noisy in the rain?
Glass is quieter than polycarbonate. Triple glazing or laminated glass reduces rain noise further.
Is a glass roof too hot for a kitchen?
Without care, it can be. Solar-control glass, an opening vent at the top and a blind make a south-facing glass roof comfortable.
How long does a ridge roof take to fit?
Typically two to four days once the walls and supports are ready, depending on length and access.
