Ridge & pitched glass roofs for Cardiff: the essentials
For Cardiff homes and buildings we offer ridge & pitched glass roofs: dual-pitch glazed roofs for side returns, links and long extensions. We measure first, specify to the opening and confirm any planning or building-control points before quoting.
Many Welsh homes have older single-storey rear extensions where a glass rooflight brightens a dark kitchen. In Cardiff, as anywhere, ridge & pitched glass roofs are the usual choice for side returns, links and long extensions.
Cardiff is the main town we list in South Glamorgan; we also cover nearby Penarth and Dinas Powys.

Planning, building control and Cardiff
Planning rules in Wales are tighter than in England for rooflights: Class C rights do not apply in conservation areas, National Parks or AONBs, so a rooflight there needs planning permission. Listed buildings need listed building consent from the council, and flats have no householder permitted development rights.
In Wales the limiting values are 2.2 W/m²K for a rooflight and 1.4 W/m²K (or WER Band B) for a roof window in an existing house. Wales also has its own overheating rules (Part O) for new homes, in force since November 2022.
Read the planning permission guide before you commit to a design.

Common questions
How long does a ridge roof take to fit?
Typically two to four days once the walls and supports are ready, depending on length and access.
Do I need a party wall agreement?
If the work affects a party wall or boundary, the Party Wall etc. Act 1996 may apply in England and Wales. We flag this at survey so you can serve notice in time.
Can it be partly solid?
Yes — part-glazed, part-insulated roofs balance light and heat.
How do I book a survey in Cardiff?
Send your postcode and, if you can, a photo of the roof and the room. We offer a survey date when we reply.
Do I need to be at home for the survey in Cardiff?
Yes — someone needs to let us into the room below and, where possible, show us how the roof is reached.
