How we approach sliding rooflights in Cardiff
We handle sliding rooflights across South Glamorgan, including Cardiff. In short: box rooflights whose glass lid slides back for walk-out roof access. The survey checks structure, weathering and orientation, so the quote reflects your actual roof.
Chapels, barns and farm buildings converted across Wales often need bespoke or conservation-style glass. In Cardiff, as anywhere, sliding rooflights are the usual choice for staircases that rise to a roof terrace.
We cover all of Cardiff and the CF10 district, and nearby Penarth and Dinas Powys.

Things we check at survey

Consents for sliding rooflights in Cardiff
Planning rules in Wales are tighter than in England for rooflights: Class C rights do not apply in conservation areas, National Parks or AONBs, so a rooflight there needs planning permission. Listed buildings need listed building consent from the council, and flats have no householder permitted development rights.
Approved Document L in Wales (2022 edition) sets 2.2 W/m²K for rooflights, measured horizontally, and 1.4 W/m²K or Band B for roof windows in existing homes. Wales also has its own overheating rules (Part O) for new homes, in force since November 2022.
Read the planning permission guide before you commit to a design.
