Sun tunnels & tubular skylights in Cardiff: what is involved?
Our sun tunnels & tubular skylights service in Cardiff covers light pipes that bring daylight to halls and bathrooms with no window. Every job starts with a survey of the opening, the roof covering and the room below, and a fixed written price.
Wales sees a lot of wind-driven rain, particularly in the west, so upstand height and flashing laps matter more than anywhere. Think of sun tunnels & tubular skylights for small internal rooms where a full rooflight will not fit.
We cover all of Cardiff and the CF10 district, and nearby Penarth and Dinas Powys.

Before you order: points to check

Planning, building control and Cardiff
Planning rules in Wales are tighter than in England for rooflights: Class C rights do not apply in conservation areas, National Parks or AONBs, so a rooflight there needs planning permission. Listed buildings need listed building consent from the council, and flats have no householder permitted development rights.
Approved Document L in Wales (2022 edition) sets 2.2 W/m²K for rooflights, measured horizontally, and 1.4 W/m²K or Band B for roof windows in existing homes. A revised Welsh Approved Document L takes effect on 4 March 2027; rooflights in new dwellings stay at 2.2 W/m²K.
See our building regulations guide for U-values, glazing limits and self-certification.

Questions about sun tunnels & tubular skylights in Cardiff
How much light does a sun tunnel give?
A good rigid tunnel on a bright day lights a hallway well. Output depends on tube diameter, length and the number of bends.
Will it get condensation?
Insulating the tube where it passes through a cold loft prevents most condensation.
Can it work at night?
Some models include a light fitting in the diffuser.
Can you work alongside my builder in Cardiff?
Yes. On new extensions we fit once the opening and upstand are ready and coordinate dates with your builder.
How do I book a survey in Cardiff?
Send your postcode and, if you can, a photo of the roof and the room. We offer a survey date when we reply.
