Rooflight upstands & kerbs in Gwent: the essentials
Our rooflight upstands & kerbs service in Gwent covers insulated kerbs built and waterproofed to suit your rooflight. We survey every job before fixing the price.
Chapels, barns and farm buildings converted across Wales often need bespoke or conservation-style glass. Many Welsh homes have older single-storey rear extensions where a glass rooflight brightens a dark kitchen.

Planning and building rules in Wales
Welsh householder permitted development (Class C) allows rooflights that project no more than 15 cm and sit no higher than the existing roof — but not in conservation areas, National Parks, AONBs or World Heritage Sites. Listed buildings need listed building consent from the council, and flats have no householder permitted development rights.
Welsh Building Regulations expect new or replacement rooflights to reach 2.2 W/m²K and roof windows 1.4 W/m²K or a Band B rating. Wales also has its own overheating rules (Part O) for new homes, in force since November 2022.

How the job runs
- Tell us about the roof. Send the postcode, rough sizes and a photo or two through the form, WhatsApp or the guide-price tool.
- Free survey. For new installations a surveyor measures the opening, checks the roof build-up and talks through glass and options.
- Fixed written quote. You get the product, the work and the price in writing. Nothing is ordered or paid for until you agree.
- Fitting and handover. We fit, seal and make good, then hand over product data, warranties and any certificate paperwork.

Common questions
Can an old upstand be reused?
If it is sound, square, insulated and the right size. Often it is cheaper to rebuild than adapt.
Does every rooflight need an upstand?
Flat and dome rooflights do. Pitched roof windows use flashing kits instead.
What roof coverings do you work with?
Single-ply, EPDM, felt, GRP and liquid-applied systems — or we coordinate with your roofer.
How high should a rooflight upstand be?
High enough to meet the rooflight manufacturer's minimum above the finished roof surface — commonly 150 mm. On roofs with deep finishes, such as green roofs, it needs to be taller.
Do you offer rooflight upstands & kerbs across Gwent?
Yes. We carry out rooflight upstands & kerbs across Gwent, including Newport, Gwent, Cwmbran, Pontypool.
