Skylight replacement in Uxbridge: what is involved?
Our skylight replacement service in Uxbridge covers replacing tired domes and failed glass with a modern rooflight. Every job starts with a survey of the opening, the roof covering and the room below, and a fixed written price.
Victorian and Edwardian terraces with narrow side returns are typical of much of London, and a glass roof or long flat rooflight is the usual way to keep the back rooms bright once the return is built over. Skylight replacement suits yellowed domes, misted glass and leaking roof windows.
Neighbouring towns include Ruislip (5 km) and Hayes (5 km). We offer a survey date when we reply to your enquiry.

Planning and building rules for Uxbridge
Most rooflights on English houses do not need planning permission, provided they keep within 150 mm of the roof surface and below the ridge line. A rooflight on a side-facing slope must be obscure-glazed, and fixed shut unless the opening part is more than 1.7 m above the floor.
Under Approved Document L, a rooflight added to an English home must achieve at least 2.2 W/m²K (horizontal plane), and a roof window 1.4 W/m²K or Window Energy Rating Band B. The Future Homes and Buildings Standards, published in March 2026, apply from 24 March 2027 and keep the 2.2 W/m²K limit for rooflights.
See our building regulations guide for U-values, glazing limits and self-certification.

Common questions
Can I go bigger when replacing?
Possibly. Enlarging the opening means trimming joists, so we check the structure first.
What do you do with the old unit?
We remove it from site and recycle what can be recycled.
Do I need building regulations approval to replace a rooflight?
Replacements in existing homes generally need to meet current thermal standards and may need notification or approval. We advise on the route for your job.
Do I need to be at home for the survey in Uxbridge?
Yes — someone needs to let us into the room below and, where possible, show us how the roof is reached.
Will I need planning permission in Uxbridge?
In England a rooflight on a house is usually permitted development under Class C if it projects no more than 150 mm beyond the roof slope and sits no higher than the ridge.
