Sun tunnels & tubular skylights in Buckley: what is involved?
Thinking about sun tunnels & tubular skylights in Buckley? The short answer: light pipes that bring daylight to halls and bathrooms with no window. The longer answer depends on your roof, which is why we survey before we price.
Slate roofs, stone cottages and terraced valleys are typical across Wales, and slim rooflights that sit low in the slates suit them best. Typical uses for sun tunnels & tubular skylights include windowless hallways, landings and bathrooms.
From Buckley to Hawarden, Deeside and Flint, the same survey-first process applies: measure, specify, fix the price, then fit.
Choices for your Buckley project

Things we check at survey
- Light output falls with tube length and bends
- Gives light, not a view
Planning, building control and Buckley
Welsh householder permitted development (Class C) allows rooflights that project no more than 15 cm and sit no higher than the existing roof — but not in conservation areas, National Parks, AONBs or World Heritage Sites. Listed buildings need listed building consent from the council, and flats have no householder permitted development rights.
In Wales the limiting values are 2.2 W/m²K for a rooflight and 1.4 W/m²K (or WER Band B) for a roof window in an existing house. Wales also has its own overheating rules (Part O) for new homes, in force since November 2022.
Read the planning permission guide before you commit to a design.

Sun tunnels & tubular skylights in Buckley: questions
How much light does a sun tunnel give?
A good rigid tunnel on a bright day lights a hallway well. Output depends on tube diameter, length and the number of bends.
Will it get condensation?
Insulating the tube where it passes through a cold loft prevents most condensation.
Can it go through a flat roof?
Yes, with a flat-roof flashing and upstand.
Will I need planning permission in Buckley?
In Wales a rooflight on a house is usually permitted development if it stands no more than 15 cm proud of the roof, except on protected land such as conservation areas and National Parks, where permission is needed.
How do I book a survey in Buckley?
Send your postcode and, if you can, a photo of the roof and the room. We offer a survey date when we reply.
