How we approach bespoke & shaped rooflights in Montrose
Bespoke & shaped rooflights in Montrose means triangular, angled, curved and multi-pane rooflights made to measure. We cover the DD10 district and the rest of Dundee and Angus, with a survey before any price is fixed.
Tenements and flats are common in Scottish towns and cities, where rooflights over stairwells and top-floor flats need the owners' and factor's agreement. Bespoke & shaped rooflights suit angled ceilings, corners and architect-designed extensions.
From Montrose to Brechin, Arbroath and Carnoustie, the same survey-first process applies: measure, specify, fix the price, then fit.
Specification options
- Triangular and trapezoid panes
- Concealed or slim frames
- Multi-pane butt-jointed runs
- Solar-control and low-iron glass
- Corner and wrap-around glazing
- Drawing sign-off before order
- Matching solar and thermal performance
What to check first
- Precise survey and template may be needed
- Large panes need a lifting plan
Consents for bespoke & shaped rooflights in Montrose
Planning rules in Scotland differ: rooflights are treated as external alterations under Class 2B, with no permitted development in conservation areas. Flats and tenements are outside householder permitted development, so check with the planning authority first.
Scottish energy standards for glazing, including rooflights, use an area-weighted average of 1.4–1.6 W/m²K in extensions, so most modern units comply comfortably. Replacing a rooflight, frame included, does not need a building warrant, but the work must still meet the building standards.
Read the planning permission guide before you commit to a design.

Bespoke & shaped rooflights in Montrose: questions
Can I cancel a bespoke order?
Made-to-measure goods are excluded from the statutory 14-day cancellation right. As a goodwill gesture you can cancel without charge until we place the order with the manufacturer, and we tell you in writing when that happens.
Do you need my architect's drawings?
They help. We still survey on site, because built openings rarely match drawings exactly.
Will a shaped rooflight leak more?
Not if detailed properly — corners and junctions just need more care.
Is the survey in Montrose free?
Yes for new installations. Repair visits are charged, and we tell you the price before we book.
