Bespoke & shaped rooflights in Bishop Auckland: what is involved?
For Bishop Auckland homes and buildings we offer bespoke & shaped rooflights: triangular, angled, curved and multi-pane rooflights made to measure. We measure first, specify to the opening and confirm any planning or building-control points before quoting.
Stone villages inland in the North East can have conservation areas where low-profile rooflights are preferred. Think of bespoke & shaped rooflights for angled ceilings, corners and architect-designed extensions.
We work across Durham, including Bishop Auckland, and in neighbouring towns such as Newton Aycliffe and Durham. Access, parking and how the glass reaches the roof are all checked at the survey.

Planning and building rules for Bishop Auckland
In England a rooflight on a house is usually permitted development under Class C if it projects no more than 150 mm beyond the roof slope and sits no higher than the ridge. Listed buildings need listed building consent, flats have no householder permitted development rights, and an Article 4 direction can remove the rights in some conservation areas.
For English homes the energy rules ask for rooflights of 2.2 W/m²K or better and roof windows of 1.4 W/m²K (or WER Band B); most modern double glazed units meet both. The Future Homes and Buildings Standards, published in March 2026, apply from 24 March 2027 and keep the 2.2 W/m²K limit for rooflights.
Read the planning permission guide before you commit to a design.

Common questions
Will a shaped rooflight leak more?
Not if detailed properly — corners and junctions just need more care.
Why does bespoke take longer?
Each unit is drawn, checked and manufactured to order.
Can I cancel a bespoke order?
Made-to-measure goods are excluded from the statutory 14-day cancellation right. As a goodwill gesture you can cancel without charge until we place the order with the manufacturer, and we tell you in writing when that happens.
Is the survey in Bishop Auckland free?
Yes for new installations. Repair visits are charged, and we tell you the price before we book.
Do I need to be at home for the survey in Bishop Auckland?
Yes — someone needs to let us into the room below and, where possible, show us how the roof is reached.
