How we approach bespoke & shaped rooflights in Cowbridge
For Cowbridge homes and buildings we offer bespoke & shaped rooflights: triangular, angled, curved and multi-pane rooflights made to measure. We measure first, specify to the opening and confirm any planning or building-control points before quoting.
Welsh planning rules exclude rooflights from permitted development in conservation areas and National Parks, so we check the designation before quoting. Bespoke & shaped rooflights suit openings that standard sizes do not fit.
We work across South Glamorgan, including Cowbridge, and in neighbouring towns such as Llantwit Major and Bridgend. Access, parking and how the glass reaches the roof are all checked at the survey.
Specification options
- Triangular and trapezoid panes
- Concealed or slim frames
- Corner and wrap-around glazing

Things we check at survey
- Large panes need a lifting plan
- Longer lead times and no returns on made-to-measure glass
Planning and building rules for Cowbridge
In Wales a rooflight on a house is usually permitted development if it stands no more than 15 cm proud of the roof, except on protected land such as conservation areas and National Parks, where permission is needed. A side-facing rooflight within 10.5 m of the boundary must be obscure-glazed, and non-opening unless the opening part is more than 1.7 m above the floor.
Welsh Building Regulations expect new or replacement rooflights to reach 2.2 W/m²K and roof windows 1.4 W/m²K or a Band B rating. Wales also has its own overheating rules (Part O) for new homes, in force since November 2022.
See our building regulations guide for U-values, glazing limits and self-certification.

Questions about bespoke & shaped rooflights in Cowbridge
Can I cancel a bespoke order?
Made-to-measure goods are excluded from the statutory 14-day cancellation right. As a goodwill gesture you can cancel without charge until we place the order with the manufacturer, and we tell you in writing when that happens.
Will a shaped rooflight leak more?
Not if detailed properly — corners and junctions just need more care.
Can any shape be made?
Most straight-edged shapes can be made in glass, within the manufacturer's size and angle limits. Curved glass is possible but specialist.
Is the survey in Cowbridge free?
Yes for new installations. Repair visits are charged, and we tell you the price before we book.
Will I need planning permission in Cowbridge?
Planning rules in Wales are tighter than in England for rooflights: Class C rights do not apply in conservation areas, National Parks or AONBs, so a rooflight there needs planning permission.
