Bespoke & shaped rooflights in Newcastle upon Tyne: what is involved?
Bespoke & shaped rooflights in Newcastle upon Tyne means triangular, angled, curved and multi-pane rooflights made to measure. We cover the NE1 district and the rest of Tyne and Wear, with a survey before any price is fixed.
Coastal exposure along the North East means we look closely at frame finishes and seals. Bespoke & shaped rooflights suit openings that standard sizes do not fit.

Consents for bespoke & shaped rooflights in Newcastle upon Tyne
Most rooflights on English houses do not need planning permission, provided they keep within 150 mm of the roof surface and below the ridge line. Listed buildings need listed building consent, flats have no householder permitted development rights, and an Article 4 direction can remove the rights in some conservation areas.
For English homes the energy rules ask for rooflights of 2.2 W/m²K or better and roof windows of 1.4 W/m²K (or WER Band B); most modern double glazed units meet both. In an extension, glazing including rooflights is normally limited to 25% of the new floor area plus any windows or doors the extension covers, unless a whole-house calculation shows otherwise.
Read the planning permission guide before you commit to a design.

Can any shape be made?
Most straight-edged shapes can be made in glass, within the manufacturer's size and angle limits. Curved glass is possible but specialist.

They help. We still survey on site, because built openings rarely match drawings exactly.
Will a shaped rooflight leak more?
Not if detailed properly — corners and junctions just need more care.
Is the survey in Newcastle upon Tyne free?
