Bespoke & shaped rooflights in Birmingham: what is involved?
We handle bespoke & shaped rooflights across the West Midlands, including Birmingham. In short: triangular, angled, curved and multi-pane rooflights made to measure. The survey checks structure, weathering and orientation, so the quote reflects your actual roof.
Older terraced streets in Midlands towns often have back additions and side passages that suit a ridge rooflight or long flat rooflight. Think of bespoke & shaped rooflights for openings that standard sizes do not fit.
Birmingham is the main town we list in the West Midlands; we also cover nearby Smethwick and West Bromwich.

Planning and building rules for Birmingham
Most rooflights on English houses do not need planning permission, provided they keep within 150 mm of the roof surface and below the ridge line. A rooflight on a side-facing slope must be obscure-glazed, and fixed shut unless the opening part is more than 1.7 m above the floor.
Building Regulations Approved Document L sets a limiting U-value of 2.2 W/m²K for new or replacement rooflights in existing homes, measured in the horizontal plane; roof windows need 1.4 W/m²K or a Band B energy rating. Replacing a rooflight or roof window can be self-certified by an installer registered with an authorised competent person scheme; otherwise building control approval is needed.
See our building regulations guide for U-values, glazing limits and self-certification.

Common questions
Do you need my architect's drawings?
They help. We still survey on site, because built openings rarely match drawings exactly.
Can I cancel a bespoke order?
Made-to-measure goods are excluded from the statutory 14-day cancellation right. As a goodwill gesture you can cancel without charge until we place the order with the manufacturer, and we tell you in writing when that happens.
Will a shaped rooflight leak more?
Not if detailed properly — corners and junctions just need more care.
Do I need to be at home for the survey in Birmingham?
Yes — someone needs to let us into the room below and, where possible, show us how the roof is reached.
Do you offer bespoke & shaped rooflights in Birmingham?
Yes. We carry out bespoke & shaped rooflights in Birmingham and across the West Midlands. Send your postcode and we will offer a survey date when we reply.
