How we approach commercial & industrial rooflights in North Shields
For North Shields homes and buildings we offer commercial & industrial rooflights: rooflights for warehouses, schools, offices and retail units. We measure first, specify to the opening and confirm any planning or building-control points before quoting.
Coastal exposure along the North East means we look closely at frame finishes and seals. Typical uses for commercial & industrial rooflights include industrial roofs with tired or fragile rooflight sheets.
North Shields is around 12 km from Newcastle upon Tyne, and we survey and fit throughout that part of Tyne and Wear, including the NE29 district.
Specification options
- Polycarbonate domes
- GRP or polycarbonate in-plane rooflight sheets
- Smoke and natural ventilation vents
- Mesh or grilles under fragile areas
- Modular glass rooflights
- Replacement of discoloured or fragile sheets
- Smoke-vent options where needed
Things we check at survey
- Fire performance of rooflight materials matters near boundaries
- Non-fragility classification should be confirmed for new products
Regulations for commercial & industrial rooflights in North Shields
For non-domestic buildings, planning depends on the building and its location; building regulations cover thermal performance and the fire classification of rooflights near boundaries. We confirm the route for your building before ordering.
For buildings other than dwellings, Approved Document L Volume 2 sets limiting U-values of 2.2 W/m²K for rooflights and 3.0 W/m²K for roof ventilators, including smoke vents. Fragile-roof safety and access are planned before work starts.
See our building regulations guide for U-values, glazing limits and self-certification.
