Dome rooflights for Dunoon: the essentials
We handle dome rooflights across Argyll and Bute, including Dunoon. In short: polycarbonate and acrylic domes for flat roofs, new or replacement. The survey checks structure, weathering and orientation, so the quote reflects your actual roof.
Short winter days in Scotland make every square metre of overhead glass count, so rooflight sizing matters. Dome rooflights suit older flat roofs with yellowed or leaking domes.
We work across Argyll and Bute, including Dunoon, and in neighbouring towns such as Gourock and Greenock. Access, parking and how the glass reaches the roof are all checked at the survey.
What you can choose
- Twin, triple or quad skin
- Fall-through protection mesh
- Polycarbonate or acrylic
- Insulated PVC or GRP upstands
- Fixed or hinged with vent
- Low cost per unit
- Light, impact-resistant domes
Things we check at survey
- Plastic domes have a lower acoustic and thermal performance than glass
- Upstand condition decides whether you replace dome only or the whole unit
Building control and safety duties in Dunoon
On commercial roofs the main questions are usually building control, fire classification of rooflight materials and safe access rather than householder permitted development. Product data for building control is supplied with every quote.
For non-domestic buildings in Scotland, the non-domestic Technical Handbook (section 6) sets the energy standards for rooflights; we supply the manufacturer's data for the building warrant. Fire classification of rooflight materials near boundaries is checked at specification.

Dome rooflights in Dunoon: questions
Are domes safe to walk on?
No. Treat any rooflight as fragile unless it is specifically certified non-fragile, and never stand on it.
Should I replace a dome or switch to glass?
A dome is cheaper and quick; glass gives a clear view and better performance. On a tight budget, or a commercial roof with many units, domes remain sensible.
Why has my dome gone yellow?
UV breaks down older plastics over time. Modern domes have UV-protective layers, but all plastics age.
Do you fit dome rooflights in Dunoon?
Yes. We survey and fit dome rooflights in Dunoon and across Argyll and Bute. Send your postcode and we will offer a survey date when we reply.
Can you work alongside my builder in Dunoon?
Yes. On new extensions we fit once the opening and upstand are ready and coordinate dates with your builder.
