What do dome rooflights in Luton involve?
For Luton homes and buildings we offer dome rooflights: polycarbonate and acrylic domes for flat roofs, new or replacement. We measure first, specify to the opening and confirm any planning or building-control points before quoting.
Many South East homes have been extended more than once, and an old dome over an earlier extension is often due for replacement. Dome rooflights suit older flat roofs with yellowed or leaking domes.
We cover all of Luton and the LU1 district, and nearby Dunstable and Harpenden.
Specification options
- Polycarbonate or acrylic
- Insulated PVC or GRP upstands
- Clear, opal or tinted
- Twin, triple or quad skin
- Fixed or hinged with vent
- Smoke-vent versions available
- Low cost per unit
Before you order: points to check
- Old domes may be fragile — treat as fragile until checked
- Plastic domes have a lower acoustic and thermal performance than glass
Building control and safety duties in Luton
For non-domestic buildings, planning depends on the building and its location; building regulations cover thermal performance and the fire classification of rooflights near boundaries. Product data for building control is supplied with every quote.
For buildings other than dwellings, Approved Document L Volume 2 sets limiting U-values of 2.2 W/m²K for rooflights and 3.0 W/m²K for roof ventilators, including smoke vents. Fire classification of rooflight materials near boundaries is checked at specification.
See our building regulations guide for U-values, glazing limits and self-certification.
What do dome rooflights cost in Luton?
These are typical supply-and-fit ranges. For an address in Luton, scaffold, a hoist for heavy glass, or a new structural opening can move the figure, which is why we survey first.

Questions about dome rooflights in Luton
Why has my dome gone yellow?
UV breaks down older plastics over time. Modern domes have UV-protective layers, but all plastics age.
Are domes safe to walk on?
No. Treat any rooflight as fragile unless it is specifically certified non-fragile, and never stand on it.
Can you replace just the dome?
Yes, if the upstand is sound and the size matches. Otherwise we replace both.
