Dome rooflights for Thatcham: the essentials
For Thatcham homes and buildings we offer dome rooflights: polycarbonate and acrylic domes for flat roofs, new or replacement. We measure first, specify to the opening and confirm any planning or building-control points before quoting.
Orangery-style extensions with lanterns are popular across the South East, and solar-control glass makes a big difference on south-facing gardens. Think of dome rooflights for schools, flats and commercial flat roofs.
Thatcham is around 21 km from Reading, and we survey and fit throughout that part of Berkshire, including the RG18 district.

Before you order: points to check
- Old domes may be fragile — treat as fragile until checked
- Plastic domes have a lower acoustic and thermal performance than glass
Rules and responsibilities in Thatcham
For non-domestic buildings, planning depends on the building and its location; building regulations cover thermal performance and the fire classification of rooflights near boundaries. Product data for building control is supplied with every quote.
For buildings other than dwellings, Approved Document L Volume 2 sets limiting U-values of 2.2 W/m²K for rooflights and 3.0 W/m²K for roof ventilators, including smoke vents. Fragile-roof safety and access are planned before work starts.
See our building regulations guide for U-values, glazing limits and self-certification.

Can domes open?
Hinged and vented domes are available, manual or electric.
Are domes safe to walk on?
No. Treat any rooflight as fragile unless it is specifically certified non-fragile, and never stand on it.
Why has my dome gone yellow?
UV breaks down older plastics over time. Modern domes have UV-protective layers, but all plastics age.
