How we approach dome rooflights in Milton Keynes
We handle dome rooflights across Buckinghamshire, including Milton Keynes. In short: polycarbonate and acrylic domes for flat roofs, new or replacement. The survey checks structure, weathering and orientation, so the quote reflects your actual roof.
Many South East homes have been extended more than once, and an old dome over an earlier extension is often due for replacement. In Milton Keynes, as anywhere, dome rooflights are the usual choice for older flat roofs with yellowed or leaking domes.
We cover all of Milton Keynes and the MK9 district, and nearby Bletchley and Leighton Buzzard.
What you can choose
- Polycarbonate or acrylic
- Clear, opal or tinted
- Twin, triple or quad skin
- Fall-through protection mesh
- Fixed or hinged with vent
- Quick replacement on existing upstands
- Smoke-vent versions available
Before you order: points to check
- Upstand condition decides whether you replace dome only or the whole unit
- Old domes may be fragile — treat as fragile until checked
Building control and safety duties in Milton Keynes
For non-domestic buildings, planning depends on the building and its location; building regulations cover thermal performance and the fire classification of rooflights near boundaries. Product data for building control is supplied with every quote.
For buildings other than dwellings, Approved Document L Volume 2 sets limiting U-values of 2.2 W/m²K for rooflights and 3.0 W/m²K for roof ventilators, including smoke vents. Fire classification of rooflight materials near boundaries is checked at specification.
See our building regulations guide for U-values, glazing limits and self-certification.

Common questions
Why has my dome gone yellow?
UV breaks down older plastics over time. Modern domes have UV-protective layers, but all plastics age.
Can you replace just the dome?
Yes, if the upstand is sound and the size matches. Otherwise we replace both.
Should I replace a dome or switch to glass?
A dome is cheaper and quick; glass gives a clear view and better performance. On a tight budget, or a commercial roof with many units, domes remain sensible.
