What do dome rooflights in Dronfield involve?
Our dome rooflights service in Dronfield covers polycarbonate and acrylic domes for flat roofs, new or replacement. Every job starts with a survey of the opening, the roof covering and the room below, and a fixed written price.
Industrial and commercial units around Midlands towns often still have their original rooflight sheets, which are due for replacement. Dome rooflights suit older flat roofs with yellowed or leaking domes.
We work across Derbyshire, including Dronfield, and in neighbouring towns such as Chesterfield and Sheffield. Access, parking and how the glass reaches the roof are all checked at the survey.
Options we can specify in Dronfield

What to check first
- Plastic domes have a lower acoustic and thermal performance than glass
- Old domes may be fragile — treat as fragile until checked
Regulations for dome rooflights in Dronfield
On commercial roofs the main questions are usually building control, fire classification of rooflight materials and safe access rather than householder permitted development. We confirm the route for your building before ordering.
For buildings other than dwellings, Approved Document L Volume 2 sets limiting U-values of 2.2 W/m²K for rooflights and 3.0 W/m²K for roof ventilators, including smoke vents. Fire classification of rooflight materials near boundaries is checked at specification.

Common questions
Should I replace a dome or switch to glass?
A dome is cheaper and quick; glass gives a clear view and better performance. On a tight budget, or a commercial roof with many units, domes remain sensible.
Why has my dome gone yellow?
UV breaks down older plastics over time. Modern domes have UV-protective layers, but all plastics age.
Can domes open?
Hinged and vented domes are available, manual or electric.
Can you work alongside my builder in Dronfield?
Yes. On new extensions we fit once the opening and upstand are ready and coordinate dates with your builder.
Do you fit dome rooflights in Dronfield?
Yes. We survey and fit dome rooflights in Dronfield and across Derbyshire. Send your postcode and we will offer a survey date when we reply.
