Dome rooflights in Billericay: what is involved?
Thinking about dome rooflights in Billericay? The short answer: polycarbonate and acrylic domes for flat roofs, new or replacement. The longer answer depends on your roof, which is why we survey before we price.
Many homes in the East have low-pitched roofs on later extensions, which are better served by flat rooflights than pitched roof windows. Dome rooflights suit schools, flats and commercial flat roofs.
We work across Essex, including Billericay, and in neighbouring towns such as Basildon and Wickford. Access, parking and how the glass reaches the roof are all checked at the survey.
Choices for your Billericay project
- Insulated PVC or GRP upstands
- Clear, opal or tinted
- Fall-through protection mesh
- Fixed or hinged with vent
- Twin, triple or quad skin
- Suits schools, flats and commercial roofs
- Light, impact-resistant domes
Before you order: points to check
- Old domes may be fragile — treat as fragile until checked
- Plastic domes have a lower acoustic and thermal performance than glass
Building control and safety duties in Billericay
For non-domestic buildings, planning depends on the building and its location; building regulations cover thermal performance and the fire classification of rooflights near boundaries. We confirm the route for your building before ordering.
For buildings other than dwellings, Approved Document L Volume 2 sets limiting U-values of 2.2 W/m²K for rooflights and 3.0 W/m²K for roof ventilators, including smoke vents. Fire classification of rooflight materials near boundaries is checked at specification.

Questions about dome rooflights in Billericay
Do domes leak?
Leaks are usually at the upstand seal or the membrane. Replacing the dome and resealing often fixes it.
Are domes safe to walk on?
No. Treat any rooflight as fragile unless it is specifically certified non-fragile, and never stand on it.
Why has my dome gone yellow?
UV breaks down older plastics over time. Modern domes have UV-protective layers, but all plastics age.
