Dome rooflights in Kirkintilloch: what is involved?
Our dome rooflights service in Kirkintilloch covers polycarbonate and acrylic domes for flat roofs, new or replacement. Every job starts with a survey of the opening, the roof covering and the room below, and a fixed written price.
Short winter days in Scotland make every square metre of overhead glass count, so rooflight sizing matters. In Kirkintilloch, as anywhere, dome rooflights are the usual choice for older flat roofs with yellowed or leaking domes.
From Kirkintilloch to Bishopbriggs, Cumbernauld and Glasgow, the same survey-first process applies: measure, specify, fix the price, then fit.
Options we can specify in Kirkintilloch
- Insulated PVC or GRP upstands
- Fall-through protection mesh
- Polycarbonate or acrylic
- Clear, opal or tinted
- Fixed or hinged with vent
- Quick replacement on existing upstands
- Smoke-vent versions available
What to check first
- Old domes may be fragile — treat as fragile until checked
- Plastic domes have a lower acoustic and thermal performance than glass
Regulations for dome rooflights in Kirkintilloch
For non-domestic buildings, planning depends on the building and its location; building regulations cover thermal performance and the fire classification of rooflights near boundaries. Product data for building control is supplied with every quote.
For non-domestic buildings in Scotland, the non-domestic Technical Handbook (section 6) sets the energy standards for rooflights; we supply the manufacturer's data for the building warrant. Fragile-roof safety and access are planned before work starts.
Read the planning permission guide before you commit to a design.

Common questions
Can domes open?
Hinged and vented domes are available, manual or electric.
Are domes safe to walk on?
No. Treat any rooflight as fragile unless it is specifically certified non-fragile, and never stand on it.
Do domes leak?
Leaks are usually at the upstand seal or the membrane. Replacing the dome and resealing often fixes it.
Can you work alongside my builder in Kirkintilloch?
Yes. On new extensions we fit once the opening and upstand are ready and coordinate dates with your builder.
How do I book a survey in Kirkintilloch?
Send your postcode and, if you can, a photo of the roof and the room. We offer a survey date when we reply.
