How we approach dome rooflights in Isleworth
For Isleworth homes and buildings we offer dome rooflights: polycarbonate and acrylic domes for flat roofs, new or replacement. We measure first, specify to the opening and confirm any planning or building-control points before quoting.
Mansard and loft conversions are common across London, and roof windows are often set out alongside dormers on the rear slope. Dome rooflights suit older flat roofs with yellowed or leaking domes.
Jobs in Isleworth are planned around access: whether the roof can be reached from the garden, whether a hoist or crane is needed, and where we can park. We check this when we measure.
Options we can specify in Isleworth
- Fixed or hinged with vent
- Twin, triple or quad skin
- Clear, opal or tinted
- Fall-through protection mesh
- Insulated PVC or GRP upstands
- Fixed, hinged or vented options
- Suits schools, flats and commercial roofs
What to check first
- Old domes may be fragile — treat as fragile until checked
- Plastic domes have a lower acoustic and thermal performance than glass
Rules and responsibilities in Isleworth
On commercial roofs the main questions are usually building control, fire classification of rooflight materials and safe access rather than householder permitted development. We confirm the route for your building before ordering.
For buildings other than dwellings, Approved Document L Volume 2 sets limiting U-values of 2.2 W/m²K for rooflights and 3.0 W/m²K for roof ventilators, including smoke vents. Fragile-roof safety and access are planned before work starts.
Read the planning permission guide before you commit to a design.

These are typical supply-and-fit ranges. For an address in Isleworth, scaffold, a hoist for heavy glass, or a new structural opening can move the figure, which is why we survey first.

Dome rooflights in Isleworth: questions
Do domes leak?
Leaks are usually at the upstand seal or the membrane. Replacing the dome and resealing often fixes it.
Can domes open?
Hinged and vented domes are available, manual or electric.
Why has my dome gone yellow?
UV breaks down older plastics over time. Modern domes have UV-protective layers, but all plastics age.
