Dome rooflights in Stratford: what is involved?
For Stratford homes and buildings we offer dome rooflights: polycarbonate and acrylic domes for flat roofs, new or replacement. We measure first, specify to the opening and confirm any planning or building-control points before quoting.
Many London roofs are reached only through the house or over neighbouring property, so lifting heavy glass is planned at survey rather than on the day. Typical uses for dome rooflights include older flat roofs with yellowed or leaking domes.
Neighbouring towns include Bow (1 km) and Hackney (3 km). We offer a survey date when we reply to your enquiry.
Choices for your Stratford project
- Insulated PVC or GRP upstands
- Clear, opal or tinted
- Fall-through protection mesh
- Twin, triple or quad skin
- Polycarbonate or acrylic
- Smoke-vent versions available
- Fixed, hinged or vented options
Before you order: points to check
- Plastic domes have a lower acoustic and thermal performance than glass
- Upstand condition decides whether you replace dome only or the whole unit
Rules and responsibilities in Stratford
For non-domestic buildings, planning depends on the building and its location; building regulations cover thermal performance and the fire classification of rooflights near boundaries. Product data for building control is supplied with every quote.
For buildings other than dwellings, Approved Document L Volume 2 sets limiting U-values of 2.2 W/m²K for rooflights and 3.0 W/m²K for roof ventilators, including smoke vents. Fragile-roof safety and access are planned before work starts.
See our building regulations guide for U-values, glazing limits and self-certification.

Common questions
Do domes leak?
Leaks are usually at the upstand seal or the membrane. Replacing the dome and resealing often fixes it.
Why has my dome gone yellow?
UV breaks down older plastics over time. Modern domes have UV-protective layers, but all plastics age.
Can domes open?
Hinged and vented domes are available, manual or electric.
