Loft conversion skylights for Edmonton: the essentials
For Edmonton homes and buildings we offer loft conversion skylights: roof windows planned for loft rooms — light, headroom and escape. We measure first, specify to the opening and confirm any planning or building-control points before quoting.
Victorian and Edwardian terraces with narrow side returns are typical of much of London, and a glass roof or long flat rooflight is the usual way to keep the back rooms bright once the return is built over. In Edmonton, as anywhere, loft conversion skylights are the usual choice for attic bedrooms, offices and en-suites.
Edmonton is around 14 km from central London, and we survey and fit throughout that part of Greater London, including the N18 district.

Consents for loft conversion skylights in Edmonton
In England a rooflight on a house is usually permitted development under Class C if it projects no more than 150 mm beyond the roof slope and sits no higher than the ridge. A rooflight on a side-facing slope must be obscure-glazed, and fixed shut unless the opening part is more than 1.7 m above the floor.
For English homes the energy rules ask for rooflights of 2.2 W/m²K or better and roof windows of 1.4 W/m²K (or WER Band B); most modern double glazed units meet both. The Future Homes and Buildings Standards, published in March 2026, apply from 24 March 2027 and keep the 2.2 W/m²K limit for rooflights.
See our building regulations guide for U-values, glazing limits and self-certification.

Common questions
Top-hung or centre-pivot in a loft?
Top-hung gives a clearer view and often suits escape use; centre-pivot is easier to clean and suits higher positions.
How many roof windows does a loft room need?
Enough to give good light — a common rule of thumb is glazing equal to roughly a tenth to a fifth of the floor area, adjusted for orientation and use. We advise at survey.
Do loft roof windows need to be escape windows?
Some loft rooms need an escape window, depending on the layout and the fire strategy for the conversion. Building control confirms the requirement.
Do I need to be at home for the survey in Edmonton?
Yes — someone needs to let us into the room below and, where possible, show us how the roof is reached.
Is the survey in Edmonton free?
Yes for new installations. Repair visits are charged, and we tell you the price before we book.
