Electric opening rooflights in Weymouth: what is involved?
Our electric opening rooflights service in Weymouth covers hinged rooflights that open on an electric actuator for fresh air. Every job starts with a survey of the opening, the roof covering and the room below, and a fixed written price.
Barn and chapel conversions in the South West often need bespoke or shaped rooflights to suit the original structure. In Weymouth, as anywhere, electric opening rooflights are the usual choice for kitchens, bathrooms and bedrooms that need fresh air as well as light.
Neighbouring towns include Dorchester (12 km) and Bridport (25 km). We offer a survey date when we reply to your enquiry.

Planning, building control and Weymouth
Most rooflights on English houses do not need planning permission, provided they keep within 150 mm of the roof surface and below the ridge line. A rooflight on a side-facing slope must be obscure-glazed, and fixed shut unless the opening part is more than 1.7 m above the floor.
For English homes the energy rules ask for rooflights of 2.2 W/m²K or better and roof windows of 1.4 W/m²K (or WER Band B); most modern double glazed units meet both. The Future Homes and Buildings Standards, published in March 2026, apply from 24 March 2027 and keep the 2.2 W/m²K limit for rooflights.
See our building regulations guide for U-values, glazing limits and self-certification.

Electric opening rooflights in Weymouth: questions
Can I control it from my phone?
Some ranges link to smart-home hubs or their own app. If that matters, say so at survey and we will specify a compatible model.
What happens if it rains while it is open?
With a rain sensor fitted, the actuator closes the lid automatically when the sensor detects water. Without one, the lid stays where you left it, which is why we recommend the sensor on any unit over a kitchen or bedroom.
Does it need an electrician?
The rooflight wiring needs a suitable supply. We can arrange it, or your own electrician can provide the spur and we connect the unit.
Can you work alongside my builder in Weymouth?
Yes. On new extensions we fit once the opening and upstand are ready and coordinate dates with your builder.
How do I book a survey in Weymouth?
Send your postcode and, if you can, a photo of the roof and the room. We offer a survey date when we reply.
