Ridge & pitched glass roofs in Hull: what is involved?
For Hull homes and buildings we offer ridge & pitched glass roofs: dual-pitch glazed roofs for side returns, links and long extensions. We measure first, specify to the opening and confirm any planning or building-control points before quoting.
Many Yorkshire homes have had kitchen extensions with flat roofs, where a larger glass rooflight is a straightforward upgrade from an old dome. In Hull, as anywhere, ridge & pitched glass roofs are the usual choice for side returns, links and long extensions.
Hull is the main town we list in the East Riding of Yorkshire; we also cover nearby Beverley and Hornsea.
What you can choose
- Aluminium systems in standard and RAL colours
- Dual-pitch or mono-pitch
- Fixed or retractable shading
- Opening vents and electric actuators
- Solar-control, self-cleaning or tinted glass
- Forms the roof as well as the window
- Slim aluminium glazing bars
Before you order: points to check
- Overheating is a real risk on south-facing glass roofs
- Large glass roofs affect the energy calculation for the extension
Planning, building control and Hull
English householder permitted development (Class C) normally covers rooflights that stand no more than 0.15 m proud of the roof plane and stay below the highest part of the roof. A rooflight on a side-facing slope must be obscure-glazed, and fixed shut unless the opening part is more than 1.7 m above the floor.
Under Approved Document L, a rooflight added to an English home must achieve at least 2.2 W/m²K (horizontal plane), and a roof window 1.4 W/m²K or Window Energy Rating Band B. Replacing a rooflight or roof window can be self-certified by an installer registered with an authorised competent person scheme; otherwise building control approval is needed.

Yes — part-glazed, part-insulated roofs balance light and heat.
How long does a ridge roof take to fit?
Typically two to four days once the walls and supports are ready, depending on length and access.
How do I book a survey in Hull?
Send your postcode and, if you can, a photo of the roof and the room. We offer a survey date when we reply.
