Ridge & pitched glass roofs in Bath: what is involved?
Our ridge & pitched glass roofs service in Bath covers dual-pitch glazed roofs for side returns, links and long extensions. Every job starts with a survey of the opening, the roof covering and the room below, and a fixed written price.
Holiday lets and second homes across the South West often want roof windows with blinds and remote opening for when the house is empty. Think of ridge & pitched glass roofs for terraced-house side returns that would otherwise be dark.
We cover all of Bath and the BA1 district, and nearby Trowbridge and Kingswood.

Do you need permission in Bath?
In England a rooflight on a house is usually permitted development under Class C if it projects no more than 150 mm beyond the roof slope and sits no higher than the ridge. A rooflight on a side-facing slope must be obscure-glazed, and fixed shut unless the opening part is more than 1.7 m above the floor.
For English homes the energy rules ask for rooflights of 2.2 W/m²K or better and roof windows of 1.4 W/m²K (or WER Band B); most modern double glazed units meet both. The Future Homes and Buildings Standards, published in March 2026, apply from 24 March 2027 and keep the 2.2 W/m²K limit for rooflights.
See our building regulations guide for U-values, glazing limits and self-certification.

Common questions
Will it be noisy in the rain?
Glass is quieter than polycarbonate. Triple glazing or laminated glass reduces rain noise further.
Do I need a party wall agreement?
If the work affects a party wall or boundary, the Party Wall etc. Act 1996 may apply in England and Wales. We flag this at survey so you can serve notice in time.
Is a glass roof too hot for a kitchen?
Without care, it can be. Solar-control glass, an opening vent at the top and a blind make a south-facing glass roof comfortable.
Will I need planning permission in Bath?
English householder permitted development (Class C) normally covers rooflights that stand no more than 0.15 m proud of the roof plane and stay below the highest part of the roof.
How do I book a survey in Bath?
Send your postcode and, if you can, a photo of the roof and the room. We offer a survey date when we reply.
