Pitched roof windows in Hinckley: what is involved?
We handle pitched roof windows across Leicestershire, including Hinckley. In short: centre-pivot and top-hung skylights for tiled and slate roofs. The survey checks structure, weathering and orientation, so the quote reflects your actual roof.
Bungalows are common across parts of the Midlands, and sun tunnels or roof windows are a quick way to brighten internal hallways. In Hinckley, as anywhere, pitched roof windows are the usual choice for lofts, attic rooms, landings and vaulted ceilings.
Jobs in Hinckley are planned around access: whether the roof can be reached from the garden, whether a hoist or crane is needed, and where we can park. We check this when we measure.

Consents for pitched roof windows in Hinckley
In England a rooflight on a house is usually permitted development under Class C if it projects no more than 150 mm beyond the roof slope and sits no higher than the ridge. A rooflight on a side-facing slope must be obscure-glazed, and fixed shut unless the opening part is more than 1.7 m above the floor.
Under Approved Document L, a rooflight added to an English home must achieve at least 2.2 W/m²K (horizontal plane), and a roof window 1.4 W/m²K or Window Energy Rating Band B. The Future Homes and Buildings Standards, published in March 2026, apply from 24 March 2027 and keep the 2.2 W/m²K limit for rooflights.
Read the planning permission guide before you commit to a design.

Questions about pitched roof windows in Hinckley
Can roof windows be electric?
Yes — electric and solar-powered models open by remote and many include rain sensors.
Can a roof window be fitted from inside?
In most cases, yes — only the tiles around the opening are lifted, and much of the work is done from inside the loft.
Will it need building regulations approval?
Fitting a new roof window usually involves cutting rafters and changing the thermal envelope, so building control approval (or, in England and Wales, a competent-person route) is normally needed. We tell you which applies.
Will I need planning permission in Hinckley?
English householder permitted development (Class C) normally covers rooflights that stand no more than 0.15 m proud of the roof plane and stay below the highest part of the roof.
Can you work alongside my builder in Hinckley?
Yes. On new extensions we fit once the opening and upstand are ready and coordinate dates with your builder.
