Rooflight upstands & kerbs for Belfast: the essentials
For Belfast homes and buildings we offer rooflight upstands & kerbs: insulated kerbs built and waterproofed to suit your rooflight. We measure first, specify to the opening and confirm any planning or building-control points before quoting.
Many Northern Irish homes have later flat-roofed kitchen extensions where an old dome can be swapped for glass. Typical uses for rooflight upstands & kerbs include roofs where the old kerb is low, cold or leaking.
We cover all of Belfast and the BT1 district, and nearby Castlereagh and Newtownabbey.

Planning and building rules for Belfast
Northern Ireland's householder permitted development allows rooflights within limits — no more than 15 cm projection on road-facing slopes and a 0.5 m margin from ridge, eaves and party walls. A side-facing window within 15 m of a neighbouring boundary must be obscure-glazed, and non-opening unless the opening part is more than 1.7 m above the floor.
Technical Booklet F1 (2022) asks for replacement windows and rooflights in existing homes to reach WER Band C or a U-value of 1.6 W/m²K, assessed in the vertical position. New dwellings must average 1.40 W/m²K across windows, roof windows and rooflights.
Our planning guide covers each nation in more detail.

Rooflight upstands & kerbs in Belfast: questions
Can I build the upstand myself?
Your builder can, to our drawing. We check it before the rooflight is fitted, because the unit must sit square and level.
Can an old upstand be reused?
If it is sound, square, insulated and the right size. Often it is cheaper to rebuild than adapt.
What roof coverings do you work with?
Single-ply, EPDM, felt, GRP and liquid-applied systems — or we coordinate with your roofer.
Is the survey in Belfast free?
Yes for new installations. Repair visits are charged, and we tell you the price before we book.
How do I book a survey in Belfast?
Send your postcode and, if you can, a photo of the roof and the room. We offer a survey date when we reply.
